Cyclists need to be on the road, whether shrniag space with traffic or in a dedicated cycle lane separated from other road traffic and from pedestrians. There’s no other way to do it.If I have the choice between cycling on the road or on a raised route shared with pedestrians, I’ll ***** choose the latter. Irish pedestrians simply have no cop on’ when it comes to segregated path usage. It’s that simple.

It’s very true. Most pedestrians won’t even notice that they are walking in a cycle lane when it’s part of the path but divided by a white line. But then it can also frustrate drivers when cyclists are on the road when there is a seperate cycle lane not being used. I really see both the drivers and the cyclists point of view and understand each is frustrated by the slower obstacle in each case. It’s a knock on effect and I don’t see it being improved any time soon. Pedestrian slows cyclist so cyclist moves onto the road, then cyclist slows cars and puts themselves in danger. Be safe out there.
